「such」は置く場所に混乱しがちで気をつけなければならない単語の一つ。
「no/any/some/all/few/many/each/every/several/other/another/one/two」
などの単語は
- 基本的にそれぞれ後に配置。
- 不定詞との併用では前に配置。

「このような」や「そのような」などを意味。
同位語を引き出すために用いられるものは通常、修飾された名詞の後に置く。

「such as/such that」
such asのasは形容詞節を導くための関係代名詞。文中の主語や目的語などとして機能。
such thatのthatは「結果の語を導くための導入詞」としてのみ機能する。
○:I’ve never heard such stories as he tells.
✖:I’ve never heard such stories that he tells.
彼がそんな話をするのを聞いたことがない。
○:It’s such a heavy bag that I can’t move it.
✖:It’s such a heavy bag as I can’t move it.

asとthatを比較
彼は私たち全員が尊敬する良い先生。(asは形容詞節を導く。asはその形容詞節でrespectの目的語として使用)
彼はとても良い先生なので、私たちは皆彼を尊敬している。(thatは副詞節を導く。thatはその節では文成分として機能せず、文中のrespectには目的語himが付いていることに注意)
suchの置く場所
「such」は基本後ろに接続。
「such」は基本「no/any/some/all/few/many/each/every/several/other/another/one/two」
などの後に置く。
○:There are no such things now.
✖:There are such no things now.
このようなことは今はない。
○:We have met many such people.
✖:We have met such many people.
私たちはそんな人をたくさん見たことがある。
○:One such dictionary is enough for us.
✖:Such one dictionary is enough for us.
私たちにとってこのような辞書は1冊あれば十分。

「a/an」をつけるとき、suchは「a/an」の前に置く。
